Regardless of your specific resolutions, having a foundation of good health is critical in order to set out for what you want to achieve.
Good health encompasses more areas of life than the traditional definition of “being free of illness or injury”. Being healthy includes having consistent energy, clear thinking, balanced moods, and a comfortable, strong body. As horseback riders, with the drive to compete, the athletic demands on the body, and the long horse show days, it is not only important to be healthy in order to ride successfully, but also to support your body in the long-term.
A healthy rider needs to have energy, focus, and strength. As you gallop and jump around a course on a 1200 pound animal, you certainly need the stamina and strong muscles to stay in control... and look good doing it! But there are numerous nutritional and lifestyle-related challenges we face in the horse show world that can deplete your energy and leave you feeling unfocused and fatigued.
